I am a learning specialist, educational consultant and adjunct professor with twenty-two years of teaching, tutoring, research and advocacy experience.
Though wide-ranging, my educational consultant and professional development services focus largely on best practices in reading instruction, dyslexia, supporting learners with language-based learning disabilities, explicit instruction principles, the science of reading, and multi-tiered systems of support as a framework for customizing and intensifying instruction for students not making progress as expected.
I have taught previously at the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut, Boston University, Boston College, and Texas State University.
I specialize in teaching students with language-based learning disabilities as they navigate today’s challenging school contexts. In my private practice, I provide remediation in tandem with an individualized, strengths-based approach based on unique academic goals for individuals with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia, as well as writing, executive function, attention control, and study skill challenges in the Des Moines, Iowa metro area and virtually.
Complementary to my teaching and consultation roles is my training and practice as a yoga instructor and writer. Both the practice of yoga and the medium of writing serve to help me hold space for the challenges, vulnerabilities, and celebrations inherent in the process of both learning and teaching.
